Apex Group CEO makes the case for tokenization as the key to unlocking private credit
Apex Group, a global fund administrator overseeing $3.5 trillion in assets, is aggressively expanding its tokenization infrastructure to democratize access to private-market deals for family offices and wealth managers. CEO Peter Hughes emphasizes that blockchain technology is the key to solving long-standing distribution inefficiencies in private credit and equity markets. The firm’s strategy includes the May 2025 acquisition of a majority stake in Tokeny, granting control over the Polygon-based T-REX Ledger for compliance-focused issuance. Following the July 2025 launch of its Apex Digital 3.0 platform, the company is managing the full lifecycle of tokenized assets including issuance, custody, and distribution. Apex has set a concrete target to reach $100 billion in tokenized assets under administration by June 2027. Furthermore, the firm is preparing for a strategic partnership with the London Stock Exchange Group scheduled for February 2026 to scale private fund tokenization. These efforts are supported by data from a May 2026 survey, which revealed that 50% of asset managers have already adopted tokenization strategies, with private credit being a primary focus. By leveraging its 36 regulatory licenses, Apex is transitioning from pilot programs to live institutional products, such as tokenized real estate on Goldman Sachs’ GS DAP platform.
