Dubai VARA Renews Focus on Real-World Asset Tokenization
Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) is intensifying its regulatory focus on the integration of real-world asset (RWA) tokenization within established financial systems. The regulator is specifically examining the intersection of digital assets with settlement infrastructure, real estate markets, and the underlying legal rights associated with tokenized holdings. This initiative aims to move beyond simple digital representation by ensuring that tokenized assets align with existing legal frameworks and financial practices. The move follows a recent mandate issued on October 6 requiring virtual-asset service providers to maintain 100% reserves for customer liabilities on a 1:1 basis with daily reconciliation. By prioritizing these structural links, VARA seeks to provide a secure environment for the expansion of tokenized markets in the emirate. This regulatory clarity is essential for institutional adoption, as it addresses the critical gap between blockchain-based assets and traditional legal enforcement. The focus on settlement infrastructure suggests that Dubai is positioning itself as a primary hub for the technical and legal plumbing required for global RWA adoption.
