Franklin Templeton Explores SEC Relief for Tokenized Fund Trades

Franklin Templeton met with SEC Crypto Task Force staff on October 9 to discuss potential regulatory exemptions for trading tokenized money market funds and ETFs on blockchain venues. The investment manager, which oversees $1.79 trillion in assets, is seeking clarity on whether blockchain-based fund shares can be exchanged for tokenized National Market System (NMS) stocks. Central to the discussion are Investment Company Act rules 22(d) and 22c-1, which mandate specific pricing and valuation procedures for redeemable fund shares. Franklin Templeton is exploring if these rules require exemptions to facilitate trading pairs involving tokenized stocks, stablecoins, and money market funds. The firm also questioned whether liquidity pools used for these trades require registration as investment companies under the 1940 Act. This engagement follows the SEC's September 17 innovation exemption, which allows limited tokenized stock trading under strict conditions. These discussions represent a significant step toward integrating traditional fund operations with decentralized liquidity infrastructure. If successful, this could establish a legal framework for seamless, on-chain trading of regulated financial products.

Animoca Brands & Franklin Templeton expand tokenised assets

Animoca Brands and Franklin Templeton have entered a strategic partnership to integrate institutional-grade real-world assets into the NUVA marketplace. NUVA, a vault-based platform co-incubated by Animoca Brands and Nuva Labs, previously focused on assets hosted on the Provenance Blockchain. This collaboration aims to expand the marketplace's offerings beyond its initial scope by incorporating Franklin Templeton’s tokenized financial products. The initiative seeks to bridge the gap between traditional asset management and decentralized distribution channels for institutional investors. Alongside the product integration, the companies have launched a four-part research series to analyze the strategic implications of tokenization on portfolio construction and market adoption. Furthermore, the firms are exploring the potential to tokenize cultural assets, signaling a broader ambition to apply blockchain technology beyond standard financial instruments. This move highlights the ongoing industry effort to transition tokenization from niche pilot programs into mainstream institutional workflows.

Tokenized US Treasuries in Crypto 2026: Why Institutions are Turning to Blockchain

Tokenized US Treasuries are rapidly gaining institutional traction as financial firms leverage blockchain for enhanced settlement, ownership tracking, and collateral management. As of October 7, 2026, RWA.xyz reports that the market for these assets has reached approximately USD 15 billion in distributed value across 109 assets and over 86,000 investors. Major institutional players are leading this shift, with BlackRock’s BUIDL fund surpassing USD 1 billion in assets under management by March 2025. Furthermore, Franklin Templeton’s BENJI platform reported USD 1.98 billion in assets under management by April 2026, highlighting the growing scale of blockchain-based fund administration. Innovations such as the integration of BUIDL with UniswapX demonstrate how traditional securities can achieve greater liquidity while maintaining necessary regulatory constraints. Despite this growth, the sector faces ongoing challenges related to cybersecurity, custody, and interest-rate sensitivity. The transition toward these digital instruments signifies a broader institutional pivot toward practical blockchain applications that improve capital efficiency in fixed-income markets.
